Standing Committee for promoting Women in Science The challenges faced by them are several but most often the “break in career” arises out of motherhood and family responsibilities. This initiative primarily aimed at providing opportunities to women scientists and technologists between the age group of years who had a break in their career but desired to return to mainstream.
Through this endeavour of the Department, concerted efforts have been made to give women a strong foothold into the scientific profession, help them re-enter into the mainstream and provide a launch pad for further forays into the field of science and technology. As we are living through the Covid pandemic, Science Foundation Ireland is more conscious than ever of the importance of supporting the public to have access to and to understand the complex science underpinning crises such as this, in the context of their lives, their health, the health of their loved ones, and the impact it has on our collective future. Its purpose is to stimulate and support projects that extend activity and ability in engaging the public in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths STEM.
Science Foundation Ireland is particularly interested in projects that will broaden the relevance to, and participation of, communities less represented in STEM in society. This has never been so important. They will contribute to supporting the public to better understand the evidence behind challenges we have collectively faced in and the choices we need to make in the future. It is important for Science Foundation Ireland to support growth in the confidence of the Irish public to be informed and reflective on policy and decisions around the societal challenges we face together.
Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals that create opportunities for broader participation and engagement of the public with STEM. Applicants need to submit only one application to be considered for one or both awards. As each award has notable differences, applicants must read the descriptions for each award carefully to determine if they are eligible to apply and hold each award. This support allows scholars to fully focus on their doctoral studies, to seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields and to contribute to the Canadian research ecosystem during and beyond the tenure of their awards.

Through its assessments, the IPCC determines the state of knowledge on climate change. It identifies where there is agreement in the scientific community on topics related to climate change, and where further research is needed. The reports are drafted and reviewed in several stages, thus guaranteeing objectivity and transparency. The IPCC does not conduct its own research.
IPCC reports are neutral, policy-relevant but not policy-prescriptive. The assessment reports are a key input into the international negotiations to tackle climate change.

HFSP supports novel, innovative and interdisciplinary basic research focused on the complex mechanisms of living organisms. A clear emphasis is placed on novel collaborations that bring biologists together to focus on problems at the frontier of the life sciences. In this section you find information about the awardees in the HFSP scientific programs. The Human Frontier Science Program is a program of funding for frontier research in the life sciences.
HFSP Research Grants support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis placed on novel and interdisciplinary approaches that involve scientific exchanges across national and disciplinary boundaries see guidelines. Projects are expected to be at the frontiers of knowledge and therefore entail risk. Participation of scientists from disciplines outside the traditional life sciences such as biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience or physics is recommended because their contributions have made biological research increasingly quantitative and because such collaborations have opened up new approaches for understanding the complex structures and regulatory networks that characterize living organisms, their evolution and interactions.
Research grants are provided for teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. Preliminary results are not required and applicants are expected to develop new lines of research through the research collaboration. Applied applications, including medical research typically funded by national medical research bodies, will be deemed ineligible.
Both provide 3 years support for 2 — 4 member teams.
